Tried and tested – Cavallo Cleo Grip Riding Breeches

As horse owners, we spend a lot of time in our jodhpurs and breeches and always push our legwear to their limits, so finding a pair of breeches or jodhpurs that offer comfort and performance is vital. We asked our store colleague Fenella to put the new Cavallo Cleo Grip Dot Riding Breeches to the test, here what she thought about these breeches.

I have my own horse who I ride regularly while caring for her on a daily basis, so I literally live in my jodhpurs! Finding the right pair of breeches that combine the perfect fit, functionality, and quality can be extremely time consuming, so when I was offered the opportunity to try a pair of Cavallo breaches I jumped at the chance. Although I had previously never tried a pair of Cavallo breeches I have always admired the sleek look of their breeches but being a student, I had been put off by the expense of them.

The pair I tried was the Cavallo Cleo Dot Full Seat Riding Breeches in navy and my initial thoughts were that they were very smart providing attention to detail in all aspects. The breeches have five pockets, one small pocket at the top of the front right pocket, perfect for a key or something small, two slit front pockets and two rear pockets shaped around the dot full seat. I love the two-tone crystal detailing in navy and blue that features down the seams of the front pockets and on the trim of the top of the back pockets, for an elegant touch of sparkle. This pair of breeches features a silicone full seat in the form of dots for added security in the saddle and belt loops on the waistband to ensure they stay in place if needed. The branding on the breeches is subtle and classy with Cavallo written in silicone glitter on the left leg and on a silver panel on the back of the waistband band. I love the material of these breeches as they have a soft shell feel and are made from nylon/elastane mix active flex fabric meaning that they are water resistant and flexible for the perfect fit.

Once on, the elasticated material meant they were light and skin tight, hugging in all the right places for an elegant look, and were flexible allowing for movement when in the saddle and walking around the yard. These breeches feature stretch leg hems around the bottom of your leg making them easier to get on around your foot while ensuring they are a close fit to your leg not interfering under your riding boots. I feel this feature is essential as I have had many jodhpurs which I have struggled getting on as it was too tight around my ankle and others which have crinkled up under my boots causing discomfort while riding. I loved the shaped waistband that is slightly higher at the back than the front for extra added comfort. Many other breeches I have tried are usually quite a low rise which I feel doesn’t compliment my figure, but the Cavallo Cleo grip dot breeches fit at a mid to high rise meaning they were extremely flattering and combined with the elasticated material; they fit perfect!

I began by schooling my horse and the elasticated material of these breeches meant I could move freely in the saddle while the silicone grip dots ensured I was secure in the saddle, essential when I started jumping. The full seat of these breeches features no seams on the knee area which ensures seams don’t dig in interfering you when riding while allowing for greater freedom of movement. Typical British weather meant it began raining, however, these breeches are water resistant allowing me to stay dry underneath and the water droplets just rolled off. I was impressed with the quick-drying and breathability of these breeches, meaning as quickly as the rain fell on the breeches, they began drying ensuring I stayed dry. I loved the pockets which are extremely functional, being deep enough so that I could fit my phone in while riding without it interfering with the way I ride.

Overall, I really enjoyed riding in the Cavallo Clio dot breeches as they were extremely light, flexible, elegant and most importantly comfortable both when riding and when walking. The feature I would recommend is the silicone dot grip full seat as it ensured I was secure in the saddle without creating an uncomfortable friction, but the feature I loved the most was the elasticated material and waistband, as it meant I had the freedom to move in the saddle while they fitted perfectly hugging in all the right places for a flattering look. I loved these breeches and I would definitely recommend them due to the elegant fit, water resistant features, the silicon dot full seat and the added crystal providing attention to detail in all aspects.
