Further Your Equestrian Career With A Stable Management Qualification

As is the case with almost every career path, having the right qualifications can help you get further up the ladder in the equestrian industry.

However, it can be difficult for those looking to make a living from working with horses to know how to get suitable training and which exams to take.

Stable Management QualificationThe answer lies with the British Horse Society, which represents the interests of the 3.5 million people in the UK involved in horse care and who ride horses or drive horse-drawn vehicles.
As the leading equestrian charity in the country the qualifications the society provides are recognised both at home and abroad for their value throughout the industry.

BHS Stable Managers

The BHS Stable Manager’s exam is aimed at people who are already working in the industry and who are competent and confident in all aspects of horse care and management.

Recognised by employers worldwide, the qualification is also a component part of the BHS Instructor Certificate which allows holders to run horse stables as a private or commercial yard, competition yard or riding establishment.

Becoming a qualified BHS Stable Manager shows that you have sound experience and knowledge in all aspects of horse care and that you are competent in stable management.
More than that, it means you are capable of training and supervising both staff and students and can examine horses for purchase as well as advise on maintaining their day to day wellbeing.

All in all, it is the most important and highly recognised of all stable management courses.

How to apply

You need to be a minimum of 22 years old and already hold the BHS Stage 4 Horse Knowledge and Care certificate and be a Gold member of the BHS before you can apply to take the exam.
Candidates living overseas may take exams with BHS E-membership, although this doesn’t apply to candidates living in Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands and those based overseas with HM forces.

As the exam is held in such high esteem, it is recommended to apply three to four months before you want to sit it. This gives you a far better chance of getting your preferred centre and date.

The process is extremely straightforward as all you have to do is complete a form and return it to The British Horse Society by post along with the examination fee.

You can also discuss availability or book an exam by calling 02476 840508 and having your membership number ready. You can also pay the fee by credit or debit card during this time.
By becoming a qualified BHS Stable Manager you will have the firmest of foundations for a long and successful equestrian career.
